Because we take that exchange very seriously, Piedmont Skydiving partners with Sigma equipment from United Parachute Technologies for all of our tandem equipment: containers, harnesses and parachutes (“canopies”).
1. IT’S DATA-DRIVEN.
The Sigma tandem skydiving system was developed from the data obtained from 4 million tandem skydives, over the course of more than thirty years. It was designed from scratch to be the safest, comfiest, most elegant design.
2. IT’S EASIER TO PACK THAN OTHER SYSTEMS.
While our professional packers see the most obvious benefits from the Sigma’s ease-of-packing, our tandem passengers experience a key advantage: the simpler system vastly reduces the potential packing errors of other systems.
3. IF YOU NEED IT, THE RESERVE PARACHUTE WORKS MUCH FASTER.
Main canopy cutaways don’t happen often. When they do, however, the tandem pair needs to have the secondary (reserve) parachute deployed and flying immediately.
Sigma is the only tandem skydiving system using the Skyhook device: a piece of technology that completely deploys the reserve canopy four times faster than other systems. With a Skyhook, the reserve deployment happens in less than two seconds and with less than 80 feet of altitude lost. (Other tandem systems available on the market lose hundreds of feet during this process.)
4. IT HAS STRAIGHT-UP SOLVED A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
Sigma advancements have eliminated the possibility of out-of-sequence deployment (which has been the statistically most common cause of fatal tandem accidents since 1989).
