WHAT TO WEAR FOR A COLD-WEATHER TANDEM SKYDIVE
We're always quick to brag about our wonderful weather here in North Carolina. It means that we skydive year-round!
That said: making a tandem skydive during warmer weather is different than making a tandem skydive in the winter. (For example: no bikini jumps.) We have some advice for skydiving during the cooler months of the year. If you're considering celebrating the seasonal cheer around Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Kwanzaa, the New Year* (or -- y'know -- Friday) by barreling out of our beautiful airplane. That advice is simple: dress for success.
1. COVER YOUR LEGS.
We have sturdy jumpsuit pants for you to wear when you do a tandem skydive with us, but layers are key!. Cold air rushes right through a single layer of fabric, so be sure to set a cozy foundation with a base layer of warm leggings or comfortable athletic pants in a soft, thick fabric. The snugglier the better!
2. DON'T EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO BARE ARMS.
The same rule -- wear layers! -- is true for your upper body. Wear a long-sleeved top or sweater (an ugly holiday sweater, perhaps?) with a cold-weather underlayer, and top it off with a jacket. Go ahead -- rock that well-loved UNC hoodie or a cool fall sweater!
3. RELEASE THE FLEECE.
Fleece gear works really, really well for winter skydiving! It fits close to the body, but it doesn't have a ton of bulk -- so you can still move freely in the sky. Also key: fleece fits easily underneath the jumpsuit pants and harness. Overly baggy clothing will catch wind in the air. Think about wearing medium form fitting layers or warm athletic clothing instead.
4. PROTECT YOUR PAWS.
We provide gloves, but if you have a favorite pair, please bring 'em along! (Think ski or snowboard gloves.) Bring glove liners, too! They definitely turn up the comfy!
5. DON'T LOSE YOUR SHOES.
Freefall loves to steal slip-on shoes, so we don't allow 'em. Wear sneakers or hiking boots. You'll be glad you did!
*We’re not actually open on the major holidays, so plan accordingly.
